Baseball Blue Jays Return to John Ryan Stadium to Battle Belle Chasse
Junior Connor Maginnis is the probable starter as the Blue Jay baseball team returns to action on Tuesday, March 17. The Jays battle Belle Chasse at 7 p.m. on Alumni Field at John Ryan Stadium. If Maginnis is handed the ball, it will be his first starting pitching assignment as a member of the varsity squad.
The Cardinals are a familiar opponent. Jesuit beat Belle Chasse, 4-3, on February 28, in the WGNO Classic.
Coach Joey Latino’s team is 11-3 after splitting four games in the 19th Annual Jay Patterson Shootout over the weekend. The Jays defeated Destrehan (10-0) and Dutchtown (11-1), but fell to East Ascension (10-12) and St. Amant (8-7).
Last week, the Jays received national recognition when they were ranked 14th in the USA Today Super 25 Expert Rankings, which was released on March 12.
Earlier, the Blue Jays defeated four excellent teams in the Jesuit Invitational Tournament at JRS. Jesuit closed the March 5-7 tournament with a 3-0 victory over nationally ranked St. Thomas More.
