Rugby Team Posts 52-35 Win Over West Jeff
The Blue Jay ruggers dominated West Jefferson High School on Saturday, Feb. 27th at Gretna Park. The Jays scored early and kept it going on their way to a 52-35 victory. The win moved Jesuit’s record to 4-1.
After a hard fought loss to St. Paul’s and the Mardi Gras break, the Blue Jays came out aggressive and physical against the Buccaneers. State Champion wrestler, Dominic Carmello, returned to the team and made his presence felt by scoring trys and with his physical, defensive play. He enjoyed his return while playing a great match in what was a total team effort by the Jays.
As the Jays continued to pull away, the coaches were able to empty the bench giving playing time to the entire squad. Despite being behind the entire match, West Jeff continued to play hard and scored a couple of late trys to make the score closer.
The Rugby team returns to the pitch on Saturday, March 7 in a match against Mississippi at their field.
