Blue Jays Welcome St. Martin’s to Lacrosse with 19-0 Victory
The learning curve in lacrosse is steeper than it is in many sports. St. Martin’s is finding that out the hard way.
In their inaugural varsity season, the Saints lost to Jesuit, 19-0. The match took place at St. Martin’s on Monday, March 23.
Recognizing the mismatch, head coach Steve Krobert ’05 got his starters out of the game early, which gave his less experienced charges an opportunity to shine. And they did. Sophomores Bennett Faust and Noah Martin, and junior Jacob Buuck each scored twice.
Veterans Max Murret and Briggs Lucia scored three goals apiece. Murret finished with a whopping six assists. Senior Garrett Perez had two goals for the Jays. Others in the scoring column were Connor Martinez, Billy McMahon, Parker Simoneaux, Tyler Welsch, and David Zazulak.
Defender Taylor Anderson had two of the team’s five takeaways. Junior Sammy Martin lead the squad with eight ground balls.
Junior Rob Hinyub played the first quarter before senior Eric Wright took over for the rest of the game.
The Blue Jays won 19 of 20 face-offs.
The Blue Jays return to action on Thursday, March 26 against a team from Golden, Colorado. Face-off is set for 8 p.m. at Muss Bertolino Stadium in Kenner.
