Swimming Secures District 9-5A Victory

The Blue Jay swimming team took first place in the District 9-5A Championship on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the U.N.O. pool. The swimmers tallied 590.5 points, well ahead of Catholic League competitors Holy Cross (390), Brother Martin (348.5), and Rummel (240).
This is the first of three big meets that the team anticipates each year. With this win, the Jays have their sights set on the next two – metro and state.
A dozen Blue Jays placed in all 11 events in this district meet. “I tried to get as many kids as possible to qualify for the state,” said coach Bret Hanemann ’85.
Four Blue Jays took first place in individual events: junior Josh Armond in both the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles, freshman Connor Schwartz in the 50-yard freestyle, senior Cade Fuxan in the 100-yard butterfly. Winning all three relay events were teams comprised of Josh Armond, Cade Fuxan, Jack Jackson, Noah Wilkens, Charles Korndorffer, Davis Edwards, Noah Cormier, and Felix Rabito.
The Jays will compete next in a Metro Meet on Oct. 30-31 at U.N.O.
