Victory Over Skippers Puts Basketball Blue Jays in the “W” Column
This time the ride over the 24-mile Causeway bridge was a lot more enjoyable.
Senior Rob Weiss had 17 points and eight rebounds to pace the Jays over Mandeville, 51-38. The game was played on Saturday, Nov. 21, in Mandeville. Ten of Weiss’s points came off Skipper turnovers.
Junior Brendan Conroy added 14 points, which included a trio of three pointers. Junior Will Hillery pitched in with a dozen points and three assists. Junior Sam Ovello grabbed six of Jesuit’s 26 rebounds.
The Jays, who led 22-13 at halftime, outscored Mandeville in each of the first three quarters and tied them with 18 points apiece in the final stanza.
The game was a rematch of last year’s playoff game against the Skippers, who bounced Jesuit from the post-season with 61-46 overtime victory over the Jays.
On Saturday evening, Jesuit shot 50 percent from the field, 50 percent from behind the three-point line, and 88 percent from the free throw line (15-18), all of which had to please head coach Chris Jennings ’78.
The Jays are now 1-1. They will play home against Warren Easton on Saturday, Nov. 28. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
