AP Biology Class Participates in DNA Electrophoresis Lab Lead by Jesuit Alumnus
Blue Jays in Mrs. Amy Tassin’s Biology II AP class participated in a DNA Electrophoresis lab led by Jesuit alumnus Dr. Kyle Happel of the Class of 1989 on Dec. 3 and 4, 2015. Students participating in the lab compared DNA samples similar to the way CSI labs use DNA fingerprints to help determine guilt or innocence. They ran an electrophoresis, separated the DNA fragments by size, and used a high intensity ultraviolet light source to view the results. Happel is an associate professor of medicine at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans.
