Jesuit Falls to East St. John in Newman Tourney
East St. John broke a close game open with a strong third quarter, outscoring the Jesuit basketball team 19-8 to extend a four-point halftime lead to 15 heading into the final eight minutes. Jesuit won the fourth quarter, but not by enough as the Wildcats held on for a 57-47 victory on Friday, Dec. 11 in the Newman Invitational Tournament.
Senior Rob Weiss led the Jays with 23 points and nine rebounds, both team highs. Junior Brendan Conroy added nine points, while freshman Elijah Morgan dished out three assists and accounted for three steals.
But the most telling statistic of the night was in the points off turnovers category. East St. John converted 17 Jesuit turnovers into 29 points. Jesuit, meanwhile, was only able to generate six points off 12 East St. John turnovers.
Jesuit returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 17 in the Valero Invitational at Chalmette High School. Brackets have not yet been released, but this story will be updated when they are.
