Jays Make it Three in a Row, Down Shaw 80-34
Jesuit’s basketball team rolled past the Shaw Eagles by a score of 80-34 on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at the Birdcage. The win was the Jays’ third in a row and boosted the team above the .500 mark in district play.
Four different players posted double-digit nights in the scoring column. Junior Will Hillery poured in 15 points to lead all scorers. Junior Hunt Conroy added 14, as did freshman Ross Talbot, who scored all of his points in the fourth quarter on seven-for-seven shooting. Junior Sam Ovella knocked down 13 points.
Most of Jesuit’s points came off crisp ball movement, with six different Blue Jays tallying three or more assists. Ovella led the way with four, while Hillery, sophomore Michael Hull, junior Michael LaForge, and the brothers Beebe (junior Chris and senior Mark) each had three.
On the other end of the court, Jesuit’s ball-hawking defense held a district opponent to less than 40 points for the third game in a row. Hull accounted for four of Jesuit’s 14 steals on the night, while Conroy pulled down six rebounds.
The win improves the Jays’ record to 10-15 (5-4 in district)
Jesuit returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 13 for a match-up with the Rummel Raiders. Game time is 7:00 at Rummel.
