The Blue Jay lacrosse team was perfect in five man-up situations, coasting to a 12-4 victory over St. George’s Independent School of Collierville, Tennessee. The defense played equally well, holding the Gryphons scoreless in all three of their man-advantage opportunities. The game took place on Saturday, March 5, at Muss Bertolino Stadium in Kenner.

Jesuit’s 12 goals were scored by eight different Blue Jays. Seniors Josh Cvitanovich, Max Murret, and Dominic Sunseri had two goals apiece, as did junior Michael Smart. Senior Connor Martinez, juniors Noah Martin and Parker Simoneaux, and sophomore Aiden Roberts tallied single scores. Noah Martin added three assists.

Two sophomores, Peyton Queyrouze and William Simon, led the team in ground balls with four each.

Senior Rob Hinyub recorded six saves in goal.

The Jays played the game shorthanded. Four players missed due to illness, while face-off specialist Bennett Faust was out attending his grandmother’s funeral.

“Seeing us spread the ball around on offense and working together on defense is always a plus,” said head coach Steve Krobert ’05. “We’re in a pretty nice groove that I hope continues as we approach the heart of our district schedule.”

Krobert also offered thanks to his players, parents, and all those who attended last week’s game against Brother Martin, including Crusader fans, for their support of the team’s fundraiser to assist a Jesuit family in need. The lacrosse program raised $5,000.

Jesuit returns to district competition on Tuesday, March 8, when they’ll face St. Martin’s Episcopal. The game will be played at St. Martin’s and is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
