Lacrosse Jays Rout Rockhurst, 11-5
As theaters get ready to roll out the new “Batman vs. Superman” movie, the captain of the lacrosse team might want to consider swapping the small “c” on his jersey for a large “S.”
Senior Max Murret scored four goals and assisted on two others to help the Jesuit lacrosse team defeat Rockhurst High School from Kansas City, 11-5. The game took place on Friday, March 18, at Joe Yenni Stadium in Metairie. Rockhurst is one of 50 plus Jesuit high schools across the country.
Murret scored three goals against Mandeville in a district game played on Wednesday, March 16.
“Max is the real deal,” said head coach Steve Krobert ’05. “We are blessed with outstanding leadership in this year’s senior class and Max is a big part of that group.” Murret and midfielder Dominic Sunseri, another senior, are the only members of the 2016 squad who have played on the varsity team since they were freshmen.
Junior Parker Simoneaux and sophomore Aiden Roberts chipped in with two goals apiece. Three seniors scored single goals: Thomas Cassagne, Kent Flower, and Sammy Martin.
Senior Gray Cressy scooped up a whopping 10 ground balls. Simoneaux and goalie Rob Hinyub had four ground balls each. Hinyub, a senior, saved seven shots in the crease.
The Jays, led by Bennett Faust, won 12 of 19 face-offs.
Jesuit travels to the Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday, March 21, for a district contest against Ocean Springs. On Wednesday, March 23, the Jays face Christian Brothers of Memphis, Tennessee. That game, in which the program will honor its seniors, is scheduled for 7 p.m., at Muss Bertolino Stadium in Kenner.
