Sunshine and Blue Skies Greet Golfers at 2016 Jesuit Golf Classic
Picture-perfect skies all day made for a beautiful backdrop at the 2016 Jesuit Golf Classic, presented by IBERIABANK. It was Mother Nature’s way of paying the school back for several years of challenging weather conditions. A total of 229 Blue Jays and friends took to the links to support Jesuit and play on the challenging Jack Nicklaus-designed, par-72 championship course at English Turn Golf and Country Club on Friday, April 8.
Class Cup
The coveted Class Cup, which goes to the foursome made up of alumni from the same class with the lowest overall score, is awarded to the Class of 2001. The winning foursome includes Adam Bailey, Christian Jacob, Craig Geraci, and Jared Strecker.
Morning Round
The winning foursomes were determined using a Jesuit-inspired (and English Turn-approved) innovative handicap scoring system that divided golfers into three flights based on how they finished. The morning round, consisting of more than 100 golfers, was won by Blake Garin ’02, Stan Ripp ’98, Ryan Vincent ’98, and Nick Cavalier ’98, who posted a score of 17-under 55.
The foursome of Matt Bonilla, Derek Morel, Julien Chouest, and Rajan Pandit from the Class of 2002 took second place, recording a score of 62. Michael Breeden ’93, Chris Sullivan ’99, Graham Ralston ’93, and David Joint ’93 finished third, with a 66.
Afternoon Round
The afternoon round was won by a foursome from the Class of 1992: Marc Bonifacic, Wiggins Edrington, Geoffrey Smith, and Roland Waguespack, who shot a 12-under 60.
Second place in the afternoon went to the foursome of Chris Watermeier ’89, Bryan Brown ’88 and parents of alumni Phil Lee and Sid Candies, who tallied a 63. Third place went to a foursome from the Class of 1995: Guy Bumpas, Lance McCardle, Cort Ralston, and Chad Perniciaro, who shot a 68.
Other Awards
The longest drive contest (Hole #16) was won by Kris Martinez ’02 (morning) and Bryan Brown ’88 (afternoon). Randy Montgomery ’97 (morning) and Ed Gardere (afternoon) won the closest to the hole competition (Hole #8).
