Memorial Mass for Fr. Raymond Fitzgerald, S.J., Scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 27
Jesuit High School will celebrate Mass in memory of Fr. Raymond Fitzgerald, S.J., on Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the North American Martyrs on Jesuit’s campus. All members of the Jesuit community are invited to attend. Fr. Anthony McGinn, S.J., will be the principal celebrant of the Mass, and Fr. Richard Hermes, S.J., will deliver the homily.
Fr. Fitzgerald passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, two and a half years after he announced that he had been diagnosed with ALS. He had been receiving medical care at the St. Alphonsus RodrÃguez Pavilion in Grand Coteau, LA since June of 2015. Up to his death he continued his spiritual ministry, which included his primary mission of praying for the Church and the Society of Jesus. He also managed to direct retreats privately and maintained extensive contacts via email.
The funeral Mass for Fr. Fitzgerald took place on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Grand Coteau, LA. The burial followed the funeral Mass in the Jesuit Cemetery adjacent to the church.
