Blue Jays Rout the Fighting Irish in the Bonnabel Jamboree, 44-14
Jesuit’s 2013 football season is underway. The Blue Jays seemingly scored at will against the Irish of Grace King in the Bonnabel Jamboree on Thursday, August 29. Jesuit put up six touchdowns, three in each half (15 minutes). Throw in a safety and six extra points by sophomore kicker Crew Jacobs and by the time the sun was setting, the Jays had routed the Irish, 44-14.
Junior quarterbacks Trey LaForge and Thomas Marks shared the duties with each throwing for a touchdown. Junior running backs Chris Mills and Malcolm Ben each rushed for a pair of TDs and senior wide receiver Nathan Zimmer hauled in a 15-yard scoring strike. Sophomore running back Ro Harper added the final TD with a five-yard scamper around end.
Jesuit’s defense performed well and held the Irish to a couple of TDs, one early and one late in the game. Coach Wayde Keiser ’78, who views the Jamboree as a “dress rehearsal” for the rest of the 2013 season, said he was pleased with the team’s performance.
“We did some things well and some things we didn’t do so well,” said Coach Keiser. “There is lots of room for improvement.”
The Jays play Ponchatoula High School Friday, September 6 at Tad Gormley Stadium with kickoff at 7 p.m. Jesuit’s first five games are against non-district opponents. The first district game is against Holy Cross on October 11.
