The Blue Jays try to capitalize on an opportunity in the box.

On Tuesday, Feb. 14, the fourth-seeded Blue Jay soccer team hosted the No. 5 Acadiana Wreckin’ Rams in the quarterfinal round of the state playoffs at John Ryan Stadium.

Between the rain and difficulties converting, it just wasn’t Jesuit’s night. Acadiana scored in the first 30 seconds, the only goal of the match. Though junior Christian de Gracia put one in for the Jays, the referee called the goal back for offsides.

The Rams would go on to defend their goal the rest of the evening, mostly clearing the ball to hold onto the lead. Jesuit controlled the pace of the game and created more chances off of set pieces, including numerous shots on goal and corner kicks, but couldn’t finish. One-on-one opportunities for Jesuit were also well-defended by Acadiana’s keeper who made several great saves on the evening.

In frenzied final minutes — which even saw Jesuit’s keeper, junior Reese Leonhard, in Acadiana’s box — the Rams maintained their pressure. Ultimately, Acadiana’s defense proved too much to overcome, and the Blue Jays finish the season at 16-4-7. The LHSAA Division I finals will take place Friday, Feb. 24.
