Baseball Goes 1-3 in Barbe Tournament

Game 4: Saturday, March 11 (12:30 PM) – WIN
Jesuit 8, Evangel Christian 2
The Jays left Lake Charles on a high note, finishing off the four game weekend with a redeeming win over Evangel Christian.
Junior pitcher Christian Hess (14) got the win from the mound, allowing Evangel’s only two runs of the game in the second inning. Hess struck out four batters and allowed five hits.
Jesuit put together an impressive offensive showing with eight hits. Senior outfielder Stephen Sepcich (27) put the Jays on the board in the first inning, batting in senior teammate Nick Ray (12). Senior Marc Theberge (3) was also able to come in on a wild throw.
After having Evangel tie the game 2 – 2 in the top of the second, Jesuit responded quickly with four runs off keen base running and the assistance of some wild throws from Evangel.
In the third inning, senior Sam Ovella (18) put the Jays up 8 – 2 with a home-run shot that drove in senior teammate Marshall Lee (10), and the game remained 8 – 2 for the rest of the contest.
Game 3: Satuday, March 11 (9:45 AM) – LOSS
Jesuit 1, Hahnville 2
On Saturday morning, the Jays fell in a close game with Hahnville High.
Senior shortstop Nick Ray (12) smashed the second Jesuit home-run of the tournament to tie the game 1 -1 in the bottom of the first inning.
Senior Davis Martin (1) took the mound and went seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out four.
The game remained tied through four innings before Hahnville got the run that would eventually give them the game on a runner tagging-up in the top of the fifth inning.
Game 2: Friday, March 10 (8:00 PM) – LOSS
Jesuit 7, Evangel Christian 10
The second game of the tournament was a true slug-fest, with both Jesuit and Evangel Christian adding up nine hits each in the game.
Evangel jumped to three run lead in the first inning, but senior Hunt Conroy (5) narrowed the gap in the second inning with a two run single.
Jesuit subbed in pitchers twice before sticking with senior Chris Beebe (33), who struck out four in the showing.
The Jays went up 6 – 5 in the third inning, batting in four runs off four hits. In the fourth, both teams added one to their total, before Evangel tied it 7 – 7 going into seventh.
Jesuit remained scoreless in the seventh, and Evangel Christian took the win having batted in three in the top of the inning.
Game 1: Friday, March 10 (5:45 PM) – LOSS
Jesuit 1, Barbe 4
In the opening game of the tournament, the Jays faced a powerful host team from A.M. Barbe High School. The Jays couldn’t keep up with the bats of the Bucs, falling 1 – 4 after seven innings.
Junior pitcher Andrew Cashman (19) allowed four hits and struck out two in the contest. Senior Stephen Sepcich (27) had the only run for the Jays with a solo homer in second inning.
After tying the game in the bottom of the second inning, Barbe added to their tally with two runs in the fourth inning and one more in the sixth. The Jays finished the game with four hits and two errors.
