The sacrifice fly by senior Marshall Lee (10) in the top of the second drove in the only Blue Jay run of the game.

After a promising season opener at John Ryan Stadium on Tuesday night against Holy Cross, the Jesuit baseball team had a tough time against the Tigers when they met again on Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays fell to the Tigers 7-1 in the district away game at Holy Cross Field.

Junior Andrew Cashman (19) got the start as pitcher for the Jays, and Collin Kulivan came on as the reliever to start the bottom of the fourth inning. Cashman struck out two batters, and Kulivan struck out three.

The Jays scored their lone run of the game in the top of the second inning. Senior Stephen Sepcich (27) led the charge with a single, then advanced to second with a stolen base. Fellow senior Marc Theberge (3) hit a shot to advance Sepcich to third, and Marshall Lee (10) drove him home on a sacrifice fly.

The Tigers put a run on the board in the bottom of the second to tie the game at 1-1, but capitalized on Blue Jays mistakes in the third to go ahead 4-1.

Following an error that otherwise would have ended the inning, the Tigers brought one run in on a sacrifice fly and two more on a shot to right and throw to home that got away from the catcher.

Other than a base hit by freshman Parker Serio (15) followed by a very nice line drive single up the middle by senior Bryce Musso (9) in the top of the fifth, the Jays remained pretty quiet at the bats for the rest of the game. Holy Cross, on the other hand, batted in three more runs in the final innings to bring the final score to 7-1.

The three errors for the Blue Jays seemed to be momentum swingers that cast a deflated spirit over the game. The Jays have an opportunity to regroup on Saturday at 5:30 PM at John Ryan Stadium against Shaw. The game was postponed from an earlier start time due to inclement weather.
