Lacrosse Pushes Past Brother Martin in Playoffs, 18-4

On Saturday at Muss Bertolino playground in Kenner, the Blue Jay lacrosse team defeated the Brother Martin Crusaders 18-4 to advance to the State Final Four in lacrosse. The final four championship weekend will be held at St Thomas More in Lafayette on Saturday and Sunday, April 29 – 30.
The Jays had built up an 11-2 halftime advantage before coasting to the victory over the Crusaders in the second half.
The 18 goals were led by an incredible six goals scored by senior Michael Smart (32). Seniors Noah Martin (4), Jeremy Hamilton (24), and Parker Simoneaux (20) each scored three times in the game. Seniors Briggs Lucia (8) and Jack Cronvich (25) and junior Peyton Queyrouze (22) each scored a single goal.
There were nine assists on the 18 goals, with three by Martin, two each by Lucia and Smart, and one each by Hamilton and sophomore Zach Charneco.
Freshman Clark Romig took all 25 face-offs, winning 17 of them for the Jays. Romig also led the team with five ground balls, followed by senior Dieter Hugel (30) and junior James Bradford (34) with four each.
Senior Grant Stevens (3) played the first three quarters in the goal and had one save as the Blue Jay defense limited Brother Martin’s shooting opportunities. Junior Ryan Hamilton (28) closed out the game with three saves in the 4th quarter.
The Jays face Loyola Prep of Shreveport on Saturday at 2 PM. If they advance to Sunday’s championship at 1 PM, they would play the winner of the game between St. Paul’s and St. Thomas More.
