Perkins Shines as Soccer Shuts Out Ben Franklin
Junior Ashton Perkins had a hand, make that a foot, in all of Jesuit’s goals in a 4-0 non-district win over Ben Franklin on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
The Blue Jays controlled the field in the first half, but the Falcons’ defense was able to hold Jesuit without a goal for the first 29 minutes of play.
That’s when Perkins got rolling. In a four-minute span, Perkins scored two goals, the first off an assist by senior Trey Aucoin and the second unassisted. Then, with two minutes left in the first half, Perkins fed junior Max Scheurich, who netted the Jays third goal of the day.
Perkins and Scheurich teamed up again for the day’s final goal at the 46-minute mark of the second half.
The win comes after a solid performance in the St. Paul’s tournament over the Christmas holidays. In that tournament, the Jays notched a victory over Lakeshore High, tied with Gulfport (Mississippi), and lost a close contest to the host Wolves of St. Paul’s. Jesuit’s record, including competition against out-of-state opponents, stands at 10-3-4.
Next up for the Jays is a home game against the Mandeville Skippers on Saturday, Jan. 6 at John Ryan Stadium. That game will be preceded by soccer Alumni Homecoming festivities beginning at 11:00 a.m.
