No scores, but almost a full season to go. The 2013-2014 Blue Jay soccer squad opened regular-season play against Ocean Springs on Monday, Nov. 18 at Pan American Stadium. Neither team found the back of the net.

“It really was a game of two halves,” said head coach Hubie Collins, who wasn’t pleased with his team’s first half of play. “We stepped it up in the second half and had some good scoring opportunities, but couldn’t get the ball to drop in.”

Collins was very happy with his team’s defensive effort. “Any time you post a clean sheet (soccer vernacular for a shut-out), you’ve got to be proud and I am,” Collins said.

Seniors Mitch Bourgeois and Nick Tadros will serve as the team’s captains. Tadros is the starting goalie. The current team consists of 18 seniors, 10 juniors, and one sophomore.

The Jays are back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 4 when they’ll take on Ben Franklin at John Ryan Stadium.
