Blue Jays Capture Cross Country District Championship
One week after winning the Metro title, Jesuit’s varsity cross country team won the district championship. The Blue Jays placed four runners in the top ten to finish ahead of Brother Martin and Archbishop Shaw on Thursday, Nov. 7, in City Park. Jesuit’s top five runners finished with a team total of 36 points. Brother Martin’s top five runners produced 41 points.
Juniors Michael Schwing (16:21), Matthews Vargas (16:23), and Patrick LaCour (16:29) finished 4th, 5th, and 6th, respectively. Senior Liam Fitzgerald finished 8th (16:31). Other Blue Jay runners were junior Ben D’Antonio (16:56-13th), sophomore Johnny LaForge (17:01-14th), and senior Sean Stephens (17:06-16th).
The Blue Jay runners, under the direction of head coach Mr. Rudy Horvath ’86 and assistant coach Mr. Taylor Bacques ’09, will compete in the LHSAA state championships on Tuesday, Nov. 19 in Natchitoches.
