Parents and Grandparents Pack Auditorium for Blue Jay Band Christmas Concert
Combining Grandparents’ Day with the Blue Jay Band Christmas Concert proved to be a “hit” for all involved.
After Mass in the Chapel of the North American Martyrs, grandparents and their Blue Jay grandsons joined band parents and other music enthusiasts in a snow-filled Jesuit auditorium to hear selections from the Blue Jay concert and jazz bands on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Joe Caluda ’79, performed four selections: “And The Bells Shall Ring,” “Do You Hear What I Hear,” Carol of the Night,” and “Polar Express Concert Suite.”
The Jazz Band, conducted by Mr. Jason Giaccone, performed “A Big Band Christmas,” “Birdland,” “Vehicle,” and “Felize Navidad.”
The evening included the performance of an original composition, “Fanfare,” by senior Gui Kirsch.
Band co-presidents Ken Boe ’84 and Dan Senentz ’83 thanked the band directors for their work with Jesuit students and then offered a special note of gratitude to Mr. D.J. Galiano ’07 and junior Ethan Martinez for their special effects wizardry that complimented the evening presentation and wowed the crowd.
After the concert, attendees were treated to a dinner of jambalaya, salad, and holiday themed desserts in the Student Commons.
