Glorioso’s 71 Helps Blue Jay Golfers Capture Regional Title
Louisiana high school golfers are on notice. Jesuit is serious about making a run for the 2014 state championship.
On Tuesday, April 29, the Blue Jays shot a combined 305 to beat seven other schools, including defending state champ St. Paul’s, at the Division I (Districts 3 & 4) regional tournament in Springfield. The event took place at picturesque Carter Plantation.
Catholic of Baton Rouge finished second with a 308. The Wolves of St. Paul’s posted a 314. The final team to qualify for the state tournament was Mandeville at 316.
Sophomore Grant Glorioso paced the Jays with a one-under-par 71, which included five birdies. Seniors C.J. Blagrove and Cole Johnson shot 77s. Senior Will Dufour birdied five of the first nine holes, but stumbled on the back nine to finish with an eight-over 80. Senior Alex Anderson’s 84 did not count toward the team total.
The one-day tournament included a 30 minute lightning delay.
The season is over for the teams at Denham Springs (333), Dutchtown (338), Ponchatoula (339), and Zachary (361).
“Our players have been working hard at their game all year,” said head coach Owen Seiler ’75. “With their great focus they are jelling at the right time. Next week will be a challenge, but our young men are excited for the opportunity to compete at the state tournament,” Seiler said.
Joining the Jays, Catholic, St. Paul’s, and Mandeville at the state tournament in Shreveport next week will be Byrd, St. Thomas More, and Airline, who finished in the top four spots of the Division I (Districts 1 & 2) regional tournament at Oak Wing Golf Club in Alexandria.
The Division I state tournament will be played on Monday, May 5 and Tuesday, May 6 at East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport.
