The Blue Jays are taking a couple of days off before resuming practice and their district schedule which has the Shaw Eagles visiting John Ryan Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 3., a special day for Jesuit soccer alumni who are invited to a reunion prior to the 1 p.m. match. The reunion festivities get underway at the stadium at 11 a.m. All Blue Jay soccer alumni are invited to attend the reunion and stay for the game.

The Jays finished a tough tournament – the St. Paul’s Annual Holiday Tourney – where they won three of their matches and played Catholic (B.R.) to a scoreless tie in the fourth. But the Jays fell just short of making it to the championship game against St. Paul’s on Wednesday because of the tie-breaker used (goal differential). Catholic had a goal differential of 9 to Jesuit’s 8, so the Bears play the Wolves on New Year’s Eve.

The Jays had a pretty good tournament showing, securing their third straight win Tuesday morning by defeating district rival Rummel, 5-0. On Monday, the Jays, shut out Hahnville, 5-0, and rallied to beat Destrehan, 3-1. The Jesuit-Catholic match was a physical doozy and tested the determination and resilience of the Jays, who now own a 10-4-2 record. Those four losses were at an out-of-state tournament three weeks ago. The two ties are both against Catholic. In the first game this season, the Jays played the Bears to a 1-1 tie.
