Jesuit opens its 2014 regular football season when it journeys across the lake on Friday, September 5 to play the Green Wave of Ponchatoula.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Ponchatoula’s football field, located behind the school on Highway 22. Student, faculty, and staff IDs will not be accepted. Tickets may be purchased at the gate.

This will be the eighth meeting between the two teams. The Blue Jays have won the previous seven games. Last season, the rivalry brought Ponchatoula to Tad Gormley Stadium where the Blue Jays defeated the Green Wave, 28-23. The two teams are alternating game locations and this year, it is Jesuit’s turn to be the visitor.

By all accounts, it appears the Blue Jays will be playing a team eager to avenge last season’s loss and hungry for a win before the home crowd.

Jesuit is coming off a 17-15 win over a tough Karr team in the Bonnabel Jamboree on August 28. The Jays have had a full seven days to prepare and practice.

Will the Jays roll the Green Wave?

“The Green Wave is a very good football team,” says Coach Mark Songy. “If we play penalty-free football and keep control of the ball, we’ll be very competitive. If we don’t and Ponchatoula gets into a rhythm, we’re going to have a real problem.”
