With the last out of the tournament, Retif players enjoy a little stress free time on their hands.

With the last out of the tournament on Sunday, Retif players bask in the glory of twice beating a strong Refuel team (Shaw).

They never gave Retif Oil a chance. Never would the “host” team, which finished way out of the money in the American Legion’s Regionals, ever survive two games in the State Tournament.

But Retif is a resilient bunch. That the players can all play baseball, coupled with sheer determination and the desire to do their best, is it any wonder that Retif held Refuel to six hits in both games, which were played back to back?

Retif’s Jack Burke and Glynn Hyer both pitched full games, which made it all the sweeter that Coach Joey Latino did not have to go to the bullpen. Several Retif players wielded hot bats: Dan Edmund had accounted for half of the team’s six hits, a single and two doubles, in the first game.

It was a team effort all the way around. Congratulations, Retif Oil for defeating Shaw-based Refuel, 7-1!

Retif will represent Louisiana in the American Legion Regional Tournament scheduled for August 7 in North Little Rock.
