Senior Week Begins with Jambalaya and Cabbage Ball
Blue Jays of the Class of 2014 were treated to a delicious jambalaya lunch as they watched the Intramural Sports program wrap up the cabbage ball finals on the first day of Senior Week, April 28 – May 2. The annual rite of passage rewards the upperclassmen for their hard work and exemplary behavior throughout their final year as high school students.
The well-deserved celebration will continue with lunchtime activities each day this week (see the schedule below), concluding with Commencement Luncheon at which the graduating seniors are officially welcomed into the Alumni Association.
Schedule of Activities
Tuesday, April 29 | Senior College Shirt Day & Teacher Impersonations | Will Clark Field
Seniors may swap out their khaki uniform shirt for a shirt* from the college they’ll be attending in the fall. (See guidelines below.) Brave seniors will also spend part of their lunchtime bringing truth to the phrase “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” as they put on their best impersonations of favorite faculty, coaches, and administration.
Wednesday, April 30 | Slip & Slide | Will Clark Field
The Class of 2014 will slip and slide their way into a fun afternoon in this favorite annual activity.
Thursday, May 1 | Shirt Signing | S. Solomon St. & Outside Chapel of the North American Martyrs
Seniors will gather in the far end of the school yard and on S. Solomon Street to take part in one of the newer traditions at Jesuit — amassing the autographs of their classmates and beloved faculty and administration on their uniform shirts.
Friday, May 2 | Senior Day | Senior Showcase & Commencement Luncheon | Auditorium & Mercedes-Benz Superdome
After being formally dismissed from their final Morning Assembly as Jesuit students, seniors make their way into the Auditorium to begin Senior Day activities. The main attraction is the Senior Showcase, a chance for Blue Jays to share their talents — and a few laughs — with their classmates.
Afterwards, seniors board several school buses and make their way downtown where the 260 members of the Class of 2014 will be officially welcomed into the Jesuit Alumni Association at the Commencement Luncheon. This year the luncheon will be held in the Bienville Club Lounge of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Seniors and alumni guests will hear from speaker Gordy Rush ’86. Gordy is a former standout football player at Jesuit and LSU. Now Gordy is an award-winning broadcaster and media entrepreneur in his native Louisiana. Named the 2013 Broadcaster of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters, Gordy transitioned this past season from sideline reporter to color commentator as part of the LSU broadcast team.
*Guidelines for Senior College Shirt Day
- Students may substitute for their khaki uniform shirts any of the following:
- An official t-shirt, collared shirt, or button down shirt from the college which you will attend next year.
- Students may not wear unofficial college shirts (fraternity shirts, homemade shirts, etc.)
- T-shirts should meet the standards and policies of Jesuit High School. Shirts that may highlight a vulgar or offensive aspect of the college may not be worn.
- Name tags need not be worn by students participating in the day by wearing any of the above. Students who wear uniform shirts (for instance, under a college sweatshirt) are required to wear name tags.
- All shirts must be in good condition and must be kept tucked in.
- All other parts of the uniform are to be worn as usual (dress shoes, khaki pants, belt, etc.).
- If you have not decided where you will attend college you may wear your senior t-shirt. No other non-uniform shirt is acceptable. Extra senior t-shirts can be purchased for $10 in Room 114.
- Questions regarding what is acceptable can be referred to the Director of Student Activities in Room 114.
