Jays and Wolves Will Tangle in a Semifinal Match on Saturday, Feb. 22 at St. Paul’s in Covington with Kickoff at 4 PM

The Blue Jays survived Tornado Alley. In a quarterfinal match in Sulphur on Tuesday, Jesuit made good on three penalty kicks and muscled in a fourth goal to beat the Tors, 4-1. The Jays’ goalie, senior Nick Tadros, played a great game and made half a dozen saves.

The match was eight minutes old when a Tors’ striker beat the Jays’ defense and angled a shot into the far side of Jesuit’s goal to give Sulphur a 1-0 lead. But 12 minutes later, the Tors were called for tripping and senior Evan Kramer took the shot for the Jays to tie the match. Three minutes before the first half ended, the Tors were again called for an infraction, this time inside the box, and Gabe Navar buried the shot to give the Jays a 2-1 lead.

The second half no sooner began when Jesuit senior Cameron Coulon muscled his way past two defenders and punched in a shot that the Tors’ goalie couldn’t stop. The goal gave the Jays a comfortable 3-1 lead, but the Tors were relentless in attacking. Credit goalie Nick Tadros with several saves and the Blue Jay defense with heads up ball. Jesuit scored its fourth goal on yet a third penalty kick, the second one by Gabe Navar, who drilled it into the corner. The goal seemed to take the wind out of the 14th-seeded Tornados.

The 6th-seeded Blue Jays will spend the rest of the week preparing for a semifinal match against the 2nd-seeded St. Paul’s Wolves. The match will be played on the Wolves’ home field in Covington on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 4 p.m. More on that rivalry later.
