Wrestling Team Places in Deep South Bayou Duals
The Wrestling team spent part of their Christmas break in Baton Rouge competing in the Deep South Bayou Duals on Dec. 27-28, 2013. The Blue Jays placed fifth out of 40 teams from eight states, and won 6 out of 8 dual matches.
Many of the state’s top squads competed on 16 mats. The two-day event featured eight pools consisting of five teams each. The top two squads from each pool competed in the championship bracket.
Jesuit was one of just two Louisiana teams to place in the top five. The other local team, Brother Martin, scored late wins to propel them to the first place finish. The Blue Jays faced the Crusaders in a hard-fought semifinal match, but Brother Martin was able to pull away for a 35-21 victory and clinch the tournament.
The team returns to the mat when they travel to compete in the Alabama Duals on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 10-11.
