Blue Jays Beaten By Catholic Bears, 53-42
The Jesuit basketball team opened regular season play with a loss to Catholic High in Baton Rouge, 53-42.
Senior Rob Weiss led the way with 16 points for the Jays. Junior Sam Ovella added 12 while freshman Noah Varnado chipped in with 8 points.
“We played hard, but unfortunately that didn’t translate into a victory,” said head coach Chris Jennings ’78.
At Jennings’s side is assistant coach Jonathan Hernandez ’00, who returned to his alma mater this summer for a second stint of coaching. This time Coach Hernandez is a full-time employee of the school.
The Jays travel to play the Skippers in Mandeville on Saturday, Nov. 21.
Jesuit’s first home game is Saturday, Nov. 28 against Warren Easton.
