Jesuit’s varsity tennis team stayed perfect for the season, posting its 11th win against no losses in dual meet play with a 7-0 shutout of Archbishop Rummel on Tuesday, April 7, at the UNO Tennis Center.

Junior Christian Archaga led the way, posting an 8-2 win at Line 1 singles.

“Christian has been on a roll since the Mobile tournament,” said assistant coach Jay Combe ’83.”I remember he said something along the lines of ‘Coach, I’m done being nervous’ after a difficult loss there. Sure enough, ever since he’s been playing fearlessly. Travis (head coach Travis Smith) and I wanted to give him a shot at Line 1 singles today. Obviously, he was up to the challenge.”

While the Raiders were competitive at Line 1, their depth couldn’t handle a Blue Jay singles line-up that dropped off very little between Line 1 and Line 4. Sophomore Luke Lingle, junior Griffin Pels, and freshman Christian Lacoste all blanked their foes on Lines 2, 3, and 4, respectively.

Lingle and Lacoste then teamed up for an 8-2 win at Line 1 doubles, while Pels and Archaga posted an 8-0 shutout on Line 2. The Raiders forfeited on Line 3.

Next up for the Jays is an April 9 rematch with Brother Martin. Jesuit defeated the Crusaders in the first of the team’s two scheduled dual meets back on March 24. Match time is 4:00 p.m. at the UNO Tennis Center.
