Junior Davis Martin pitched four strong innings on Monday night as Retif Oil defeated Ponstein’s, 9-1.

Retif Oil bounced back from a disappointing weekend with a 9-1 win over Holy Cross-based Ponstein’s in an American Legion baseball game on Monday night at Kirsch Rooney Stadium.

Alex Galy and Brandon Briuglio each knocked in two runs to lead the Retif scoring parade. Briuglio almost had a third RBI–himself. But he was called out at the plate trying to stretch a triple into an inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning. Trent Forshag and Scott Crabtree also picked up RBIs for the Jays. Ponstein errors accounted for the other three Blue Jay runs.

As has been the case lately, Retif got strong outings from both starting and relief pitchers. Junior left-hander Davis Martin gave up one run in four innings of work. Logan Hornung pitched three scoreless innings in relief.

With the win, Retif improves to 2-4 for the season. The Blue Jays next take to the diamond on Wednesday, June 10 for a showdown with St. Charles Catholic-based Townsend Homes. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Kirsch Rooney Stadium.
