Three Individual State Titles Help Wrestling Team to Runner-Up Finish
Three Blue Jay wrestlers took home individual titles, helping the team to a second place state finish before a record two-day crowd of 14,325 at the 2015 LHSAA Division I State Wrestling Championships at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner. Jesuit finished with a team score of 270.5, behind Brother Martin who took top honors for the fourth consecutive year.
Brody Martin (106), Ben D’Antonio (120) and Dominic Carmello (285) claimed individual titles after downing Archbishop Rummel’s Blake Mateu, Brother Martin’s Stephen Rumney, and Fontainebleau’s Christian Ponson, respectively. D’Antonio is a repeat champion, having won his weight class at last year’s state tournament.
Juniors Joseph Dupré and Guy Patron Jr. each took home second place honors after falling in the championship matches to Holy Cross’ Dylan Soileau and Hahnville’s Kendrick Jones, respectively. Eli Larriviere, Maxwell Grosch, and Will Lafranca all finished third, while Jake Rovira took home a fourth place finish.
