Science teacher Matthew Firmin ’10 serves jambalaya during the first senior week event. Senior week has officially begun as the Class of 2022 gears up to leave for their next adventures, the student council has planned a new activity each day to inspire and thank the class starting with senior shirt and jambalaya day on April 25, 2022. 

The first in-person MCJROTC Change of Command since 2019 had family and friends watching with pride as Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Guerney assumed command from Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Joseph Finger. The change of command is signified by the current cadet lieutenant colonel presenting the colors to the upcoming cadet lieutenant colonel. 

Brandon Briscoe ‘ 98 explains the spiritual and physical history of St. Mary’s Assumption Church. The 2022 Nine Churches Walk welcomed new and old faces at a novel starting location, Holy Name of Jesus Church, and all those gathered participated vigorously in the stations and prayed at each Church along the six-mile route. 

Jesuit senior Jack Larriviere receives a blessing from Jesuit president Fr. John Brown, S.J., before he receives his first communion. On April 13, 2022, the entire student body participated in a special Mass in the Chapel of the North American Martyrs. Larriviere received the body and blood of Christ for the first time and was blessed with tremendous support as he took another step toward entering the Catholic Church.

Jesuit New Orleans was pleased to host the University of Detroit Jesuit band and even more delighted to witness the two bands come together and deliver a tremendous show. 

Jesuit chaplain Fr. Kevin, Dyer, S.J., addresses the student body during Monday morning assembly. Fr. Dyer encouraged all Jesuit students, faculty, and staff to embrace this upcoming Holy Week as a time to enter into Jesus’ passion, reflect on all the lessons Christ has taught us during this Lenten season. 

Run to the voting booths! On April 5, 2022, 15 courageous Jesuit students gave speeches to the whole Blue Jay body explaining why they should be the next secretary, treasurer, vice-president, or president. Congratulations to these students for their tremendous speeches and do not forget to vote. 

As a part of the Sudden Impact Program, Jesuit students participate in a mock crash on April 1. The crash increases awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence, driving unrestrained, and participating in high-risk behaviors like texting. Counselors and emergency workers stressed the importance of strong communication between parents and their teenage children with hopes to prevent a tragedy. A special thank you to the Jesuit Guidance department, Jesuit Philelectic Society; University Medical Center Trauma Injury Unit; Louisiana State Police; New Orleans EMS; and New Orleans Coroner’s Office. 

The Class of 2002 officially kicked off the 2022 reunion season with their couples night at Vintage Rock Club on Friday, March 25. The Class of 1982 also had their glorious stag reception on Friday and enjoyed catching-up with new and old friends. If either of these reunions are any indicator of what is to come, the 2022 reunion season looks to be one of community and excitement. 

Social studies teacher Stephen Hayes was honored for his 40 years of selfless and dedicated service to Jesuit High School by the MCJROTC at the organization’s 32st annual Parade and Review on Thursday, March 24. At the ceremony that was attended by his colleagues, family, and witnessed by the entire Jesuit student body. Hayes exemplifies what it means to be a Blue Jay and a Man For Others.  His professionalism, dedication, leadership, and unceasing efforts to improve Jesuit make him an example for all to follow and are in keeping with the highest traditions of Jesuit High School.

Sophomore sodalist Will Sossaman helps unload collected Mardi Gras beads at St. Michael Special School. Six other sophomore sodalists helped unload the colorful necklaces and were given a generous tour of the facility. After the tour was over, the students enjoyed a tremendous meal at Café Reconcile, where executive director Gerald Duhon ’85 explained the importance and impact of non-profits. 

Academic Games moderator Jordan Holmer ’12 reads a lightening round question that stumped most of the participants. The Academic Games team and Student Council are hosting a 2-day current events trivia competition during the second half of lunch in Heritage Hall. If you missed today’s session and would like to test your knowledge on the events of 2021, please feel free to join in the competition on March 11, 2022.  

Hard working volunteer Amy Casbarian helps pack shirt bags before the much anticipated Jesuit Bazaar on March 18 and 19. Casbarian and numerous other volunteers have been working under the guidance of Cindy Wooderson and Maura Owers to ensure that the 2022 Bazaar goes off without a hitch. Lots and lots cake. On Friday, February 25, 2022, purple, green, and gold could be seen all around Carrollton and Banks. In addition to the festive outfits, king cake was served during the second-half of lunch by multiple clubs to ensure that students met their carb intake before Fat Tuesday. To cap the festivities, Mr. Giaccone and several band members led a second-line through the Traditions Courtyard to truly awaken the Mardi Gras spirit. 

Coach and theology teacher Chris Lamothe and Joan Barrera speak with The Sports Analysis Club during the second half of lunch in the first-floor conference room of the Madonna Della Strada Building. The main topic of discussion focused on the situation surrounding former No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson. Many students and faculty offered their opinions, but only time will tell where the talented young star will end up. Former Jesuit Alumnus of the Year Edgar “Dooky” Chase III ’67 speaks during the first half of lunch in room 210. Chase spoke about the history of the Civil Rights movement in New Orleans, with a focus on the role of his family restaurant as a gathering place for local and national leaders. Chase delved into a number of topics including the tough and uplifting times of starting at Jesuit, cleaning the restaurant floors at 5 a.m., and the musical influences of his day.
